WE CAN CHANGE

HI ANUP HERE

Transport system of any city depends upon the population & its development. Considering that during our visit to Delhi, I noticed a big difference between the transport systems of the two cities Pune & Delhi. We can neglect the number of vehicles considering the population of the area but population can be control by using alternatives to petrol / diesel which are LPG / CNG
It found that the Delhi public transport has different types vehicles like auto rickshaws, taxis ( in taxis there are 2-3 different types municipal transport busses, private busses & METRO. Delhi auto - rickshaws & taxi uses LPG / CNG as fuel & some busses also ply on LPG / CNG which reduces the pollution drastically. On the other side Pune has rickshaws & busses but very few of them use LPG / CNG as a fuel whish tends to increasing in pollution. During peak hours the level of pollution is high but Delhi is getting a relief from this pollution because of wiser use of fuel like LPG / CNG. If Pune want to overcome the problem of pollution then it must have Public transport run on LPG / GNG. Most of the rickshawallas did not want to convert to LPG / CNG and blamed the government by saying that there is not enough number of LPG / CNG filling stations but if they had started converting into LPG / CNG then as per the demand - supply rule they will get enough numbers of filling stations. The other reason that is causing problems is the lack of political will power. Politicians those selves are not interested in doing such conversions.
Apart from pollution, Pune is facing another problem of traffic jams. The number of vehicles & negligence of traffic rules & signals. Delhiest obeys rules of traffics. In Delhi there is compulsion to were helmet for two wheeler riders (penal section - 129/177 MVA) & people are concern of self safety & helping government to maintain the law on other side when there was a compulsion in Pune to were a helmet then government was criticized by people & refuse to were it.
( actually there is rule to use helmet)
If there is a strike of busses in Pune then rickshaws make hay. If we consider Delhi there are many options of public transport which benefit to people, yes there are some internal conflicts between the transporters but it creates problems very less
If even half of the public transport vehicles switches to LPG / CNG it will give tremendous decrease in pollution level which will be beneficial to our selves.

EVEN BY SWITCHING ENGINE OFF AT SIGNALS ALSO HELP TO REDUCE POLLUTION.
I CAN SEE SOME POSITIVE CHANGE IN SOCIETY REGARDING SWITCHING OFF ENGINE AT SIGNAL BUT IF NUMBER OF THIS TYPE OF GOOD CITIZENS INCREASE IT WILL BE BEATER.

  2. @ Anup: A good observation Anup but I wanted to ask you how many of us do really turn off their vehicles at traffic signals? Anup do you???

One point here is that the Pune is known for the number of two-wheelers and it is these which should first be run on eco-friendly fuels. Changing the autorickshaws and buses to CNG is a good move but the main focus should be on reducing the number of two-wheelers, which in turn will help to reduce the pollution.

  4. Efficient public transport running on green fuel is the need of the hour. But the auto-rikshaw and car manufacturers' lobbies, that are stronger than the common people, won't let that happen.

If we have an efficient and confortable alternative, I am sure we won't mind using it. Or else make using the private vehicles so expensive, that you can't afford to use them. (Like they do it in Singapore and Japan.)

  5. @ Nisha, Pune has most no. of two wheelers in India and no is growing very fast. Your suggestion abt ecofriendly two wheelers is good. But longlasting soln is to have efficient public transport, then only there will be less pvt vehicles on road and we can find a soln to this problem.
