Save Sparrows

I read the anchor news of Sakal's Pune Today (April 2, 2010), in the morning. It is about how farmers in the countryside are killing the sparrows (Chimanya- Chiutai), to save their crops. It is a must read story. Sparrows are not seen as frequently in urban area and this story had put question mark on their survival in countryside also.

What you feel about this unfortunate trend. What we can do as a person, as a group and as a society?

  2. I felt really sad readin this to be honest. It is not just about the sparrows here. Humans have so far thrashed thousands of species of plants and animals into extinction. You see, we people living in the city can only help raise awareness. We cannot go in a jungle and stop poachers and cannot go around in farms trying to stop sparrow killings. Heck, we can't even stop it if one of our own neighbours secretly poisons the bird feed, because, there are too many ways to kill. All that can be done is use National TV and Radio to broadcast advertisements. Ads, that are (hopefully) not made by Page-3-PETA, which the farmers will see during news and "Aamchi Maati Aamchi Maanase" and other favourite programmes of their including Lakshya-Ashok Saraf movies that are shown no TV. In fact, if Marathi actors like Bharat Jadhav and the old ones like Ashok Saraf n all come forward n make ads for this purpose, they'll have a bigger influence on people, because they are more popular and respected in rural Marathi areas.

Same pattern should be followed in all other states where this is happening. By the way, if you thought human cruelty ends at plants and animals alone, think again.

This article may make you puke with disgust, fury and hatred, but well, THIS, IS, Ground Reality, most unfortunately. Read on.......

That^... is how far human cruelty goes. I have nothing more to say. but my personal opinion is, when terrorists say they're killing us (humans) for the sake of God, they might just be right. Most humans, unfortunately, are too cruel to be allowed to live. But yes, I wouldn't generalise that because we have a few good men too. Peace OutZ!

  3. असीम.. येकदम राईट्ट..

  4. Yogesh Borate here.
I think there are a lot of environmental issues that arised due to human activities. The decrease in number of sparrows is not arrised just now, bt its quite old. As the no of mobiles going on increasing, the no of sparrows n many other birds decreased gradually. Now the article placed here is releated wid the same issue bt the activity due to which it started is different. But the same factor here is that its again an activity by human.
I think its a traditional way for protecting the crop from the birds, by a farmer. Now if we think by the point of view of a farmer, then may be its right. But its really shameless to hang a died bird there.
Another aspect is that if we blame farmers for the decreasing no of birds/sparrows through any such article, then its our responsibility that provide other resons also there in the article that caused decreasing no of sparrows. Otherwise anyone who dont know other scientific resons behind this fact may blame the farmers. This may not be happened. Think for that.

  5. @ Aseim,I agree with you. Your suggestion abt national advertisments is excellant and implementable.
Plight of the albinos in Africa is miserable.
@ Yogesh, we are not blaming farmers alone. We, the humans are responsible for it and we have to face the consequences.
