Dear friend'Sachin here;
Before few day's in 'Pune Sahitya Sammelan' happened preciously & in cultural mood. In that one orgument is such that the puna university name has been change as 'Krantijyoti Savitribai Phule' & it has proceeding. Some self philosopher say's that what is in name? I say everything is in name, such as Identity! Name is identity of person. It's also a thought's of people.Like.we say Mahatma Gandhi than the thought come in or mind is truth, non voilence.& can come this thought after Adalf Hitler name? No,it's not! So that's the point.
Krantijyoti Savitribai phule is not a name. It's a symbol of a womens education. She was pioneer of women education & also a good poetress.Today's reform & progressive Maharashtra is because of Phule family. She has a thought's of freedom of woomen in India & I think that it's ok to change the name.
If William Shakespeare come in earth & queshioned to what is in name? then I say-"Everything is in Name?

Hello,
ReplyDeleteSachin this is Sunil Manaware.I read your blog and I appreciate your thought process.Truely the way you touched the subject with its different angles is thought provoking to a great extent.
It has always been a practice and norm to name a human or any tourist place or any kind of institute to name after a famous personality who has altered the human history because of his contributions.Even while christening the new born baby we do lot of thinking and sometimes consult astrologers and finally decide upon a name which has its origine in mythology or in history. The idea behind is the name will carry some original charismatic characters or traits of its original posseser.
The same thing goes to naming Pune University or Marathawada university or any educational institute across the world.
However you could have been more polished about your stand and language in particuler. You also could have talked of the apatheic attitute of the admistration towards innovation and systematic approach to take university to new heights which were the constant endeavours of our great men of past.
Hello sachin ,
ReplyDeleteThis is surekha i can read your blog and i agree with you name is also very much important factor.because it can also indicate identity of that person .savitribai phule was Indias first lady teacher who made base of girls education.first school for girls was also started in pune hence this is good dicisiun to convert the name of pune university in 'krantijyotisavitribaiphulr'
@ I agree with you when you say that everything is in the name. And so I rise with pride when I say that I am from the University of Pune. I have been staying in this city since the past 24 years. I was born here and brought up to adopt with the changing culture. I love the place and every nook and corner of it. So do I love the University of Pune. The name “Pune” makes me feel at home when I go far away from home. There is a lot in the four-lettered word—PUNE for me! It lets me relive my culture.
ReplyDeleteI have cousins and friends studying in USA and they happen to tell me that when they say they graduated from Pune University, people start looking upto them. Such is the reputation of the university. ITS MY AND ALL THE PUNE STUDENTS’ IDENTITY.
I respect Savitribai Phule but would never want to change my identity.
Name and identity are meaningless. They are 'given' meaning because the average (and even above average) public is unable to distinguish between reality and assumed / branded / promoted collective identity.
ReplyDeleteDo you think just because a person is Puneite he's super intelligent or a super someone ?
Is every student from UoP brilliant ?
Forget UoP,
Can anyone claim with full confidence that someone from IIM will succeed in business for sure or someone from IIT is real good at science ?
Besides, I know a lot about what goes behind-the-scenes in some of the finest educational institutes, financial institutes, and organisations from trusted sources. And not just me, everyone has their sources and many are there, who do know da difference between REALITY and REPUTATION.
Do you think every family that gives birth to a boy child, elevates his "khandaan ka naam" ?
Do you think any woman, who claims to be modern, and keeps really ridiculous sounding multiple last names, like Joglekar-Subhramaniyam or Usmanabadkar-Bhattacharya to ensure "equality", is really respected ? In fact, that is a good enough excuse to doubt her (and her family's) wisdom in the first place considering she'll be typing a hundred letters on every form she must fill up to live a good life.
They make a lotta issues outta names lol.
Lemme end this with a little question.....
If you name your son 'Shivaji' and he grows up to be a rapist.....
Would you change HIS name, or would you change YOUR address ?
@ Sachin : Good thought indeed!
ReplyDelete@ Aseim: Last line.... HAHAHAHA!! ROFLOL!!
