I have been living in the city for several years. That time Pune used to be a nice and cool place to live. With plenty of huge trees on both sides of the roads, the summer never became an issue for me. But, now the summer is getting hotter and unbearable every year. The meteorologists are giving reasons that hot currents from the north are the main reason behind the increasing heat. However I feel that we are more or less responsible for this.
In past few years, the population of the city increased so tremendously and the city expanded like a flooded river. No town planning, no long term projects, just expansion. Our public transport system also failed to match the increasing population and it caused a great hike in number of vehicles on road.
To bear this excessive load roads also got broaden. In this process we lost the most valuable thing on earth. Several years old trees which were the natural cooler got vanished just like that. Now we have 80feet, 120feet roads, but we don’t have beautiful tress along with it. Still nobody is worried that we are making urban desert of our city. If we don’t stop it now, the summer is going to be hotter every year.
We all love Pune, don’t we? Why can’t we let the city stay as it is? Let us all do conscious do our best to make the city a better place for living. Lets all come up with some wonderful ideas to save the green cover in Pune.

Hi nisha ,
ReplyDeletethis is surekha.everypepole want green and clean environment but now adays this is not possible because of increasing population and distroying trees.hence cool city pune is also becoming hott........but if our management of goverment is becoming alert then may be some solutions are possible.firstly they can follow rules and regulations for green and clean environment Ex-one house one tree, keep a city clean, dont break tree. And also the pepole should follow the rules and regulations
Really? Our class or college campus shows different! :P
ReplyDeleteNicel write-up though! :P
Desperately missing the green cover over University road and Sinhagarh road. I have done of cylcing along these roads.
ReplyDeleteIs this the price we are paying for the development?
One antidote, In our lane in Kasaba Peth, we planted few samplings while in school. Almost all the trees grown fully with our little care. Now we are enjoying the greenary there.
fhaktach green asun fhayada nahi, pradushanhi kami vhyala hav .aapan donhihcha samatol rakht nahiye pradushan pan jast aani zhadapan todatoy
ReplyDelete@ Aneesh: Ya, you are right. But wait for next year... I heard there is a big hotel coming up at the place..?? :)
ReplyDelete@Sanjay Tambat Sir: It’s nice to hear that you got the joy of cycling. Our generation unfortunately cannot have the luxury to travel by cycle to far away places. My father narrates his times to me when he would go to Fergusson on cycle or even take my mom for movies to Rahul theatre.
ReplyDeleteToday cyclists are given no respect on the city roads. Every single day there is an accident where a cyclist dies or is injured. It’s sad that Pune, a cycle city, has changed for the wrong reasons.
